Glynns are the leading supplier of Solar Panels and Solar Tubes in Counties Mayo, Roscommon and Galway. Solar power is available all year round, it even works on hazy and overcast days. The efficiency however is higher and more savings can be made from March until September. Solar is a versatile, highly-efficient, low-maintenance solution for your hot water needs. When averaged over the year a correctly sized solar water heating system can provide up to 70% of a household's hot water needs at negligible cost. During the winter season the system will still be able to provide heat to supplement the primary heat source and thus reduce the running cost of the boiler or heat pump.

How do I know what systems meets my requirements?

  1. We have to establish is it Solar Tubes OR Solar Panels?. If your roof surface is facing directly South, Solar Panels OR Solar Tubes are suitable. If your roof is not directly South facing but falls somewhere between South East and South West, Solar Tubes are most suitable. If your roof surface is facing East and West only, we can supply you with an East/West system with either Tubes or Panels. This option is marginally more expensive as more Tubes or Panels are required to acheive the desired return from the system.
  2. What is your Hot water requirement? i.e How many people are going to be living in the house? The more poeple the greater the demand for Hot water, the more panels or tubes required. So for example, there is 2 adults and up to 2 children. Then 30 tubes or two panels will provide sufficient hot water. Any more than 2 adults and 2 children would require 40 tubes or three panels. Our Solar brochure below sets out the approximate annual output from each system.

For those of you who are still not convinced that Solar works call in to our Tuam store and see for yourself how hot the water is on any given day. We have a 40 Tubes system installed on the roof of the shop, piped down into a 300 litre stainless steel cyclinder and onto a hand basin where you can fell the heat from the water. The pumping station has real time temperture readings from the tubes on the roof and at the bottom and top of the cylinder. On the 5th March 2010 last, the tubes had heated the water to 74 degrees. On the 22nd December 2009 last it had the water heated to 29 degrees.
